Sindh Bans Dumpers in Karachi During Daytime

The Sindh government has banned dumpers from entering Karachi during the daytime. Heavy vehicles can only operate in the city between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM to reduce road accidents and ease traffic congestion.

In an emergency meeting led by Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Hyder Shah, top officials, including the Sindh Police IG, Karachi Commissioner, Additional IG, Secretary Transport, and DIG Traffic, discussed the city’s traffic challenges.

The meeting resulted in several measures, including mandatory physical verification of heavy vehicles and their drivers to ensure safety compliance. Additionally, all commercial vehicles must obtain a QR Code-certified certificate from the Transport Department.

The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board has been given three months to shift operations to nighttime. The Chief Secretary also ordered an inspection of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board tankers within a month.

With motorcyclists making up 65% of vehicles in Karachi and involved in 55% of accidents, authorities will strictly enforce helmet laws and penalize reckless driving. To enhance road safety, the government is launching a province-wide Vehicle Inspection and Certification System (VICS) and reviving the Traffic Engineering Bureau.
