The National Assembly has passed an amendment bill raising the salaries and allowances of parliamentarians by majority vote.
According to details, the bill was presented by Romina Khurshid Alam during the assembly session and received approval with broad support. Under the amendment, the salaries and benefits for MNAs and senators have been aligned with federal secretaries at Rs. 519,000.
During the session, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq remarked that while some members call the parliament “fake,” they still participate actively. He added that any member unwilling to accept the increased salary should submit a written request.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar echoed this sentiment, stating that those rejecting the raise should inform the Speaker’s office.
Lawmakers from PPP, PML-N, PTI, and other parties supported the salary hike. Some had initially demanded Rs. 1 million per month, but Speaker Ayaz Sadiq dismissed the request.
Previously, the monthly salary of an MNA stood at Rs. 218,000.
