The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has expressed confidence that recent developments related to its procedures will lead to a favorable verdict from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) referred Pakistan’s case for review.
Pakistan was placed on WADA’s compliance watchlist in September 2024 due to non-conformities with the agency’s updated anti-doping code. Since then, the country has undertaken significant measures to address the concerns and improve its anti-doping system.
Last Friday, WADA reviewed the cases of Uruguay, Uganda, and Pakistan, removing Uruguay from its watchlist but referring Pakistan and Uganda to CAS for further deliberation. No immediate sanctions have been imposed on Pakistan pending the court’s ruling.
In response to these developments, the PSB confirmed that the Anti-Doping Organisation of Pakistan (ADOP) had formally challenged WADA’s claims of non-compliance, preventing any immediate penalties. “ADOP has successfully averted potential action from WADA by formally disputing the recent allegations of non-conformities,” the PSB stated in an official release.
The statement further highlighted that Pakistan had made comprehensive reforms, including the implementation of an updated Test Distribution Plan (TDP) and enhanced result management protocols, to ensure full compliance with international standards.
PSB Director General Yasir Pirzada also voiced strong confidence in Pakistan’s stance, asserting that the country has met all required standards and should receive a favourable ruling from CAS.
Reaffirming its dedication to fair play and doping-free competition, the PSB has emphasized its commitment to maintaining “the highest standards of fairness and transparency in promoting clean sport.” With the case now under CAS review, Pakistan awaits the verdict, hopeful that its efforts to strengthen anti-doping policies will be acknowledged and validated.
