Champions Trophy: Fakhar Zaman is Back on the Field After Injury Scare

Pakistan’s star opener Fakhar Zaman is back on the field after picking up an injury during the opening game of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand at the National Stadium in Karachi. He was taken off the field to be assessed for a muscular sprain.

The incident occurred just two balls into the highly anticipated match when Fakhar, fielding at the boundary, dived to stop a ball from crossing the fence. While his effort successfully prevented a boundary, it came at a cost. Fakhar appeared to twist his knee during the dive and immediately went down in visible discomfort.

Medical staff rushed to the field to attend to the left-handed batter, who was seen clutching his knee in pain. After a brief on-field assessment, it was decided that Fakhar would not continue, and he was escorted off the field. Kamran Ghulam was brought in as his replacement.

Fakhar Zaman’s injury is a significant setback for Pakistan, especially given his importance to the team in high-stakes tournaments. Known for his explosive batting at the top of the order, Fakhar has been a key player for Pakistan in recent years, with his ability to dominate bowlers in the powerplay and set the tone for the innings.

The Champions Trophy opener against New Zealand is a crucial match for Pakistan, who are hosting the tournament for the first time since 1996. The team, led by Mohammad Rizwan, is under immense pressure to perform in front of a home crowd and capitalize on the home advantage.
