NADRA Denies Issues With Biometric Verification

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has assured that its biometric verification system is operating without issues.

It added that any authentication problems faced by users at banks or telecom operators are unrelated to its database.

In response to public concerns raised on social media, NADRA clarified that it provides verification services to banks and telecom companies as part of regulatory requirements. Financial institutions can use the Verisys system, which offers secure identity verification beyond fingerprint authentication.

Verisys, accessible through a secure connection, allows verification of CNICs, NICOPs, and Pakistan Origin Cards. A NADRA official emphasized that it is the responsibility of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to ensure banks and telecom companies utilize Verisys for customer authentication.

For SIM issuance and telecom services, NADRA has already collaborated with PTA and mobile operators to establish verification mechanisms at service centers and selected franchises. Citizens experiencing issues are advised to report complaints to their telecom providers or PTA.

To further improve verification, NADRA is working with SBP and PTA to introduce facial recognition as an alternative for cases where fingerprint authentication is unsuccessful.
