Mohammad Amir Highlights Technical Flaws in Shaheen Afridi’s Bowling [Video]

Former Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir provided an insightful analysis of current star pacer Shaheen Afridi and the technical issues affecting his bowling performance.

Amir discussed how Shaheen has struggled to regain his lethal edge, particularly evident during Pakistan’s disappointing loss to New Zealand in their opening match of the tournament.

In the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy in Karachi, New Zealand posted a formidable total of 320 runs, bolstered by two centurions. Pakistan’s bowling attack, which has often relied on Shaheen’s early breakthroughs, faltered significantly, with the left-arm pacer going wicketless in his 10 overs and conceding 68 runs. This performance raised concerns among fans and analysts alike about Shaheen’s current form and effectiveness.

During a talk show, guest Mohammad Amir took the opportunity to demonstrate Shaheen’s bowling action, pinpointing specific technical flaws that may be contributing to his struggles. He noted that as Shaheen prepares to deliver the ball, his landing foot tends to go sideways. This misalignment, Amir explained, causes the force of his delivery to dissipate sideways rather than driving through the target, ultimately affecting the shape of his in-swing deliveries.

Amir elaborated on the common misconception among young bowlers that the power of a delivery comes solely from the arm. He emphasized that true force originates from the alignment of the body during the delivery. He further explained that if a bowler’s head moves sideways during the action, it shifts their weight and results in a loss of power.

To achieve the necessary zip and pace in his deliveries, Amir advised that bowlers must maintain a straight and aligned posture. This alignment allows for proper hip rotation, which is crucial for generating the force needed to deliver the ball effectively.
