In a massive goof-up, India’s national anthem started playing during the ICC Champions Trophy match between England and Australia at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
It seems the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is off to a rocky start, with a series of “technical” glitches, ever since the Indian government’s favorite stooge, Jay Shah, became chairman before the mega event in Pakistan.
The drama began when Pakistan’s name was mysteriously removed from the Champions Trophy 2025 logo during the India vs. Bangladesh match. And now there’s another moment of “Indian” influence.
During the highly anticipated clash between England and Australia at Gaddafi Stadium, both teams prepared to sing along to their respective national anthem. While England sang their God Save The King, Australian players were getting ready to sing Advance Australia Fair. However, in a bizarre twist, Jana Gana Mana blared through the speakers for a brief two seconds before the error was corrected.
While the awkward moment lasted only a couple of seconds, it was enough for the internet to pounce. Social media erupted, with users—mostly from India—taking the opportunity to troll the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the country itself for this gaffe.
It’s worth noting that the PCB’s management might want to reconsider their playlist, especially since India is playing all its Champions Trophy matches in Dubai after successfully pushing for a hybrid model. Keeping the Indian national anthem on standby for a match in Pakistan? That’s a bold move!
For now, Indian fans and Jay Shah can enjoy their chuckle at the expense of the PCB. But as the saying goes, what goes around comes around. The real test will come this Sunday when Pakistan faces India in a highly anticipated match.
Here’s hoping we hear Rally, rally around the West Indies in Dubai instead.
