Chaklala Cantonment Launches Major Beautification Project in Rawalpindi

The Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) has launched a beautification project to transform main roads and squares in Rawalpindi.

The first phase of this initiative includes improvements along the old Airport Road, where the Jhanda Chichi market received a facelift and buildings were whitewashed.

A cricket arena and football ground were established near Leh Nullah for children, and flowers were planted around the main square.

Executive Officer Amir Rasheed said the project aims to enhance vacant spaces for recreational purposes. He also revealed that the Military Lands and Cantonments Director General, Maj Gen Irfan Ahmed Malik, had instructed the transformation of the old Airport Road into a model road, with further work planned for Lalkurti in the second phase.

To reduce visual clutter, the CCB has streamlined shop signboards along the main road to follow a uniform style. Plans include installing decorative lighting at key intersections, underpasses, and open areas near Leh Nullah.

The CCB has also started a survey for tree planting, with Rs20 million allocated by the Punjab government to improve the cantonment’s greenery.

Additional roads such as Adiala Road will also undergo similar beautification in the coming months.
