The 7th Combaxx Asian Open Taekwondo Championship concluded on a high note as international athletes and officials departed after days of intense competition and camaraderie.
Departing participants lauded the exceptional event organization, the warm hospitality they received, and the competitive spirit on display, with many expressing a strong desire to return for future tournaments. Among those who shone on the mat was Saudi Arabia’s Dunya Ali Abu Talib, who secured gold in the women’s -53kg category. She commended the organizers, including Pakistan Taekwondo Federation, for executing a seamless event.
Expressing admiration for Pakistan’s taekwondo potential, she highlighted the host nation’s runner-up finish as a testament to its rising stature in the sport. “Pakistan’s performance in this championship proves that their athletes have immense talent. I believe they will soon be serious contenders on the international stage,” she remarked.
Greece’s Styliani Marentaki, who dominated the -67kg category to claim gold, described her visit as one of the most unforgettable experiences of her career. She admitted that while she had only known about Pakistan through social media before, witnessing it firsthand far exceeded her expectations.
“I felt a family-like atmosphere throughout the championship, which made my experience even more special,” she said.
Kazakhstan’s Abdurakhmon, the gold medalist in the -80kg category, echoed similar sentiments. Calling Pakistan his favorite country for sports. Meanwhile, Iran’s Mehdi Haji Mousavi, who topped the podium in the -63kg category, bid farewell with fond memories and expressed eagerness to return in the future.
