Pakistan delivered a stellar performance at the Combaxx 7th Asian Open Taekwondo Championship, emerging as the top-performing nation with a total of 15 medals won at the Pakistan Sports Complex. The host country claimed two gold, five silver, and eight bronze medals, outshining strong contenders from Iran, Egypt, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Palestine.
Pakistan’s men’s contingent led the charge, securing multiple podium finishes. In the -58kg category, Pakistan achieved a clean sweep, with Haroon Khan striking gold, Siddique Abubakar taking silver, and Tayyab Muhammad clinching bronze. Elsewhere, Junaid Faizan brought home a bronze in the -74kg division, while Omar Hamza Saeed added to Pakistan’s tally with a silver medal in the +87kg category.
Pakistan’s women’s squad also shone at the Asian Open Taekwondo Championship, particularly in the -62kg category, where Pakistan dominated with a gold-silver-bronze finish. Sabira Bibi claimed the top prize, with Zoya Sabir securing silver and Fazila Bibi earning bronze. Hafiza Aslam and Khadija also made their marks with bronzes in the same weight class. In the -49kg category, Zahraa Khawar and Fateemaah Tuz finished as runners-up, securing a silver medal.
Meanwhile, in the +73kg division, Manisha and Aneeza Imran added two more bronze medals to Pakistan’s impressive haul.
The home team’s dominance against international competitors signals a bright future for Pakistani athletes in the sport. Already a well-known name in the Asian region, success in tournaments like the Asian Open Taekwondo Championship is sure to attract the world’s attention soon.
