Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced the Chief Minister Transplant Program, a groundbreaking initiative providing free organ transplants for those in need.
The program, the most extensive of its kind in Pakistan’s history, covers liver, kidney, bone marrow, and cornea transplants, along with cochlear implants for children with hearing impairments.
Underprivileged patients in Punjab will have access to these life-saving procedures at no cost, funded entirely by the government. Eligible individuals can register through the Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority to receive treatment.
The initiative extends beyond public hospitals, as private healthcare facilities will also offer transplant services under the program. A toll-free helpline (0900-90800) has been established to provide information and assistance.
Speaking on the launch, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that children born deaf will be able to hear through cochlear implants, while corneal transplants will restore vision for those suffering from blindness.
Additionally, she reaffirmed that the government would fully cover the costs of liver and kidney transplants, ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent access to critical medical care.
