Google has introduced automatic transcripts for videos stored in Google Drive and you should also be able to search them as needed.
The company began deploying this feature today to all Google Workspace subscribers, with full implementation expected by March 26th, meaning it should reach every Google Drive user by that time.
The new transcripts mirror the YouTube format. When available, transcripts display alongside the video in a sidebar containing timestamped text blocks. These blocks are highlighted in real-time as the speaker says the words in a video, sort of like subtitles. You can easily navigate to specific moments by clicking on any text segment within the transcript. A dedicated search bar at the top of the sidebar lets you quickly locate specific content within lengthy videos.
Here is what it looks like in action.
You can access this feature by simply clicking on the settings icon at the bottom of the video player and then selecting the “Transcript” option. This addition should prove especially useful for professionals and teams who regularly work with video content in their Google Drive accounts, offering improved navigation and faster content search.
Since the rollout has already begun, the feature should reach Pakistan soon, if it hasn’t already. However, keep in mind that auto transcripts are exclusive to Google Workspace, a paid service.
