Punjab Restarts Computerization of Old Arms Licenses

The Punjab government has reinitiated the process of verifying and digitizing old manual arms licenses, offering a final opportunity for holders to update their records.

The Home Department has directed license holders to get their outdated booklet-style permits converted into digital records. Applications for verification and computerization can be submitted to the Commissioner of the relevant division or the Additional Secretary Judicial.

Previously, the government had set December 31, 2020, as the final date for digitization, after which unregistered licenses were declared invalid. However, recognizing the need to facilitate citizens, authorities have reopened the process.

Revised Verification Process

Under the latest guidelines, only designated officials will have the authority to process applications. Each case will be reviewed, and official approval will be required before a license is updated in the digital database.

Applicants must submit the necessary documents and pay the renewal fee as per the Punjab Arms Rules 2023. The government has also instructed NADRA to ensure a smooth transition by updating records efficiently.

A formal notification has been sent to all divisional commissioners, emphasizing the importance of completing the process within the given timeframe.
