Huawei has announced a new Mate 70 Pro Premium Edition, which will go on sale starting March 5 in China. Despite the “Premium” name, this version comes with an underclocked chipset but a lower price tag compared to the standard Mate 70 Pro.
The Huawei Mate 70 Pro Premium Edition retains the 6.9-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth visuals. The design remains unchanged from the standard model, featuring a sleek body and a curved-edge screen. The phone is available in Green, Purple, White, and Black color options.
Unlike the standard Mate 70 Pro, which launched with the Kirin 9020 chipset, the Premium Edition features an underclocked version of the same processor. This change was revealed in a Geekbench listing, where the phone posted a single-core score of 1,450 and a multi-core score of 3,793—results comparable to mid-range smartphones. Despite this, the Premium Edition still offers 12GB of RAM, ensuring solid multitasking performance. The phone runs on Huawei’s HarmonyOS, providing a smooth user experience without Google services.
The camera system remains unchanged, featuring a 50MP primary sensor, a 40MP ultra-wide camera, and a 48MP macro telephoto lens. This versatile setup ensures high-quality photography with excellent zoom and macro capabilities.
The 5,500mAh battery supports 100W wired and 80W wireless charging, delivering fast charging speeds. The Premium Edition is priced lower than the original Mate 70 Pro, making it a more affordable option. The pricing is as follows:
While the Premium Edition offers a slightly downgraded processor, it still maintains the same premium design, camera system, and fast-charging capabilities at a more competitive price. However, it is unlikely that Huawei will release this version outside of China.
