Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wants the availability of sugar and other essential commodities at affordable rates.
Chairing a meeting in Lahore on Sunday, he urged the need for strict measures to control sugar prices and prevent hoarding. He directed authorities to develop a strategy for stabilizing prices, particularly during Ramazan. He warned that negligence in price control would not be tolerated.
The meeting also discussed the state of sugar production and confirmed that the country has sufficient stock. Provincial authorities have established fair price shops to provide sugar at cheaper rates, while efforts continue to curb smuggling. The prime minister was assured of strict action against hoarders and intensified monitoring at the district level.
Later, PM Shehbaz met with Federal Power Minister Sardar Awais Leghari to review the electricity supply situation. He reiterated his earlier directive to reduce tariffs for all consumers and ensure uninterrupted power supply during Sehri and Iftar.
