The ICC has unveiled the nominees for the Men’s Player of the Month for February 2025. This month’s list features three exceptional batters who have truly shone on the international stage, each making a compelling case for the coveted title.
Leading the charge is Steve Smith, the seasoned Australian batter who has been a force to reckon with in both Test and One-Day formats. During the Test series against Sri Lanka, Smith showcased his batting prowess with scores of 141 and 131 in two matches, boasting an impressive strike rate of 136.00.
In the one-day series, Smith had a mixed bag, scoring 12 and 29. As he entered the ICC Champions Trophy—his final international tournament in the format—he contributed with scores of 5 against England and 19 not out against Afghanistan. While his ODI form may have been a bit shaky, his Test performances certainly kept him in the spotlight.
Next up is Shubman Gill, the Indian opening batter who has been on fire in the one-day format throughout February. Gill racked up an impressive 406 runs in five matches, averaging 101.50 with a strike rate of 94.19. His standout series against England included scores of 87 in Nagpur, 60 in Cuttack, and a brilliant 112 in Ahmedabad, helping India secure a 3-0 victory and earning him the Player of the Series honors.
Gill carried this momentum into the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, starting with an unbeaten 101 against Bangladesh, followed by a valuable 46 against Pakistan.
Rounding out the nominees is Glenn Phillips from New Zealand, who has made significant contributions both with the bat and in the field. Phillips scored 236 runs in five one-day internationals at a strike rate of 124.21, including three unbeaten innings. His key performances helped New Zealand clinch the tri-series in Pakistan, highlighted by a superb 106 against Pakistan in Lahore, along with vital knocks of 28 and 20 in the final against South Africa and Pakistan, respectively.
Phillips continued his impressive form in the Champions Trophy, starting with a crucial 61 against Pakistan in Karachi, followed by an unbeaten 21 against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. His all-around contributions have made him a standout performer for the Kiwis.
