The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the latest nominees for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award, with Pakistan’s ace spinner Noman Ali among those selected. Noman Ali, who had previously won the accolade, has once again been shortlisted for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for January 2025, following his outstanding performances against the West Indies in the recent Test series.
The veteran left-arm spinner finds himself in elite company alongside Jomel Warrican (West Indies) and Varun Chakravarthy (India), both of whom delivered match-winning performances for their respective teams.
Noman was Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker in the two-match Test series against the West Indies, playing a crucial role in his team’s efforts on spin-friendly surfaces. He started strongly in the first Test, claiming six wickets for 81 runs. However, it was in the second Test that he etched his name in history. In a masterclass of spin bowling, Noman secured a hat-trick, becoming the first Pakistan spinner to achieve this feat. He further excelled by taking six wickets in the first innings and four in the second, finishing the match with remarkable figures of 10/121.
Across the series, Noman picked up 16 wickets at an exceptional average of 12.62, further solidifying his reputation as Pakistan’s premier spinner. His ability to dismantle the West Indies batting lineup earned him widespread recognition and a well-deserved nomination for the ICC’s monthly award.
Noman faces stiff competition for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award from Jomel Warrican, the West Indies spinner who was instrumental in helping his side secure a 1-1 series draw against Pakistan. Warrican took 19 wickets in the series, including a match-winning 9/70 in the second Test, and was named Player of the Series.
Meanwhile, Varun Chakravarthy continued his dominance in T20 cricket, tormenting England’s batters with his mystery spin. The Indian bowler claimed 12 wickets in four T20 Internationals, including a five-wicket haul in Rajkot, while maintaining a stunning average of 9.41.
Pakistan’s cricketers have often been in the spotlight for the ICC’s Player of the Month award, and Noman Ali’s nomination continues this trend. With his match-winning performances and historic hat-trick, the veteran spinner has a strong case for taking home the award.
