Two patients lost their lives, while 17 others remain in critical condition at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital after suffering severe reactions to anti-bacterial injections.
According to hospital officials, a 26-year-old patient, Daulat Khan, who was admitted for surgery, succumbed to complications caused by the injection. Earlier, a 31-year-old female patient had also passed away due to a similar reaction.
Following the incidents, authorities at Mayo Hospital immediately halted the use of the suspected injection. A high-level inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the deaths, while the Punjab Health Department has also launched a separate probe into the matter.
Recently, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took swift action after a surprise visit to the hospital. Upon receiving multiple complaints from patients and their families about mismanagement, she dismissed the hospital’s Medical Superintendent (MS).
Expressing her dissatisfaction, she questioned the MS’s oversight, saying, “You don’t even know what’s happening with the patients.”
The tragic incident has raised serious concerns about the hospital’s administration and the safety of medical treatments provided to patients. Authorities are now working to determine the exact cause of the adverse reactions and prevent similar incidents in the future.
