Pakistan’s snowshoeing athletes have made a strong impression at the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2025, securing spots in the finals of both the 200m and 800m races after exceptional performances in the divisioning rounds.
The national team, which includes seven dedicated athletes, has showcased impressive skill and determination. Among the athletes progressing to the finals are four female competitors: Iqra Akram, Minahil, Shah Galoon, and Tabsassum Nasir, who will represent Pakistan in the 200m event. Meanwhile, Ali Raza, Saboor, and Muhammad Afaq will also compete in the same event, with Moazzam Iqbal participating in the 800m race.
Farkhanda Jabeen, the Head of the Pakistani Delegation, emphasized the importance of the divisioning process, which groups athletes with similar abilities to ensure fair and competitive races. “Our athletes have shown outstanding performance thus far, and we are confident they will bring pride to our nation,” she said.
With the finals scheduled for March 13 at the Palazzetto dello Sports Center, these athletes will have the chance to compete for medals and further elevate Pakistan’s standing in the international special sports arena. Their success at this stage is not only a testament to their hard work but also highlights Pakistan’s growing talent and competitive spirit in global sporting events.
More than 1,500 athletes from 100 global delegations are competing in Turin, Italy, in the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2025, which runs from March 8–15. The eight disciplines being contested include Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, DanceSport, Figure Skating, Floorball, Motor Activity Training Program (MATP), Short Track Speed Skating, Snowboarding, and Snowshoeing.
