Pakistani Cricketers Massively Fined for Breaking Rules: Reports

Reports have surfaced about fines imposed on Pakistani cricketers by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for breaking team rules during recent tours and matches. The penalties ranged from hefty amounts for serious violations to smaller fines for minor infractions, with some even being refunded later.

The current PCB regime has been under immense scrutiny lately for various reasons. However, reports are emerging that PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has enforced strict disciplinary rules on players during recent tours.

According to these reports, all-rounder Aamer Jamal faced the highest fine of approximately Rs. 1.4 million during a Test match. The reason? Writing “804” on his cap, which violated team protocols. The incident drew attention and resulted in a steep penalty.

Another instance of these disciplinary actions was during Pakistan’s tour of Australia when three players— Vice Captain Salman Ali Agha, and opening duo of Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique—were fined Rs. 500,000 each for returning late to the team hotel at night.

In the South Africa series, players Sufiyan Muqeem, Usman Khan, Abbas Afridi, and an unnamed fast bowler were fined $200 each for arriving two minutes late to the team hotel. However, in a surprising turn of events, these fines against the Pakistani cricketers were later refunded.

The refund came as a gesture of goodwill after Pakistan’s clean sweep victory in the ODI series against South Africa. The team management decided to celebrate the achievement by returning the fines to the players.
