A useful new tool is coming to WhatsApp soon, designed to make conversations easier to keep up with, especially in group chats.
A new threaded reply system is in the works, which aims to consolidate all replies linked to particular messages. This feature, currently in its developmental stage, will eliminate the need to sift through lengthy chat logs to locate individual replies. Instead, a focused view will display all quoted messages, directly linking them back to the initial message that started the discussion. It works just like the threads feature you can find on Discord, Slack, and other messaging apps.
Here is an early look at what the feature could look like.
As always, the feature was first uncovered by folks over at WABetaInfo in the WhatsApp Android beta update, version 2.25.7.7. However, it is important to note that this feature is not yet ready for public testing and will be implemented in a future update.
The rollout of message threads should include individual chats, group chats, community forums, and channels. It is also worth mentioning, as pointed out by WABetaInfo, that threads for channels are also undergoing development at the moment.
WhatsApp users waiting for threads will have to remain patient, as a launch timeline remains unknown. The development team has yet to provide any indication of when this feature will be accessible to the general public.
This upcoming update should be a welcome enhancement to the app, particularly for those managing large group chats or relying on the search function to find older message replies. The introduction of message threads should significantly improve organization and planning within WhatsApp.
