County Club Signs Pakistan Test Captain for Upcoming Season

Leicestershire County Cricket Club has announced the signing of Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood for all formats of the upcoming season. The 35-year-old middle-order batter, who previously starred for Yorkshire, is set to bring his extensive experience to the Foxes as they aim for success in Division Two of the County Championship.

Shan Masood joins Leicestershire after helping Yorkshire secure promotion last season, where he showcased his skills and leadership on the field. With over 25,000 runs accumulated across all formats since his first-class debut in 2007, Masood is regarded as a proven talent in the cricketing world.

However, fans will have to wait a bit longer to see him in action, as Masood will miss the start of the County Championship campaign due to overlapping commitments with the Pakistan Super League (PSL X). He is expected to join the Foxes in time for the T20 Blast, which kicks off in May.

Leicestershire’s director of cricket, Claude Henderson, expressed his enthusiasm about Masood’s arrival, stating that he is “a proven talent” capable of “winning matches” in both red and white-ball formats. Henderson emphasized that Masood’s leadership and experience will be invaluable to the team, both on and off the pitch.

In response to his signing, Masood shared his excitement about joining Leicestershire at what he described as an “exciting time.” He noted the club’s competitive spirit, having challenged for promotion in the County Championship last season and clinched the One-Day Cup the year before.

“The club has been very competitive in all formats and produced some fantastic young players over the last few years,” Masood remarked, highlighting his eagerness to contribute to the team’s success.
