Former PCB CEO Lands Major Role at International Basketball Federation

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Executive Wasim Khan has joined International Basketball Federation (FIBA), basketball’s global governing body, as Executive Director-designate for Asia.

The British-Pakistani sports administrator will formally take charge as FIBA Executive Director Asia in January 2027. He will be responsible for the development of basketball across the continent and oversee FIBA’s work with 44 national federations.

Khan has already started working with the organization and will undergo a transition period with current FIBA Executive Director Asia Hagop Khajirian before assuming the role.

The appointment marks Khan’s move from cricket administration to basketball after holding several senior positions at the domestic and international levels.

He began his administrative career after playing professional cricket in the United Kingdom. He later served as Chief Executive of the youth cricket charity Chance to Shine and Leicestershire County Cricket Club.

Khan joined the PCB as Managing Director in 2019, under a three-year contract and later became the board’s Chief Executive. He remained in the position until his resignation was accepted by the PCB’s Board of Governors in 2021.

After leaving the PCB, he was appointed General Manager of Cricket at the International Cricket Council (ICC) in April 2022 and formally took up the role the following month.

His appointment at FIBA comes as the governing body prepares for a wider leadership and operational change in Asia.

FIBA has announced that its Regional Office Asia will relocate from Beirut to Kuala Lumpur in January 2027. The move was approved by the FIBA Central Board and the FIBA Asia Zone Board and will see the regional office return to its original headquarters in Malaysia.

FIBA described Kuala Lumpur as a well-connected and strategically located city that is already home to major international sports organizations, including the Asian Football Confederation and the World Badminton Federation.
