Faisalabad is set to make history as Iqbal Stadium reportedly prepares to host an international match for the first time in 17 years. The Bangladesh cricket team is scheduled to tour Pakistan in May for a white-ball series, featuring three T20 Internationals (T20Is) and three One Day Internationals (ODIs).
This tour marks Bangladesh’s second visit to Pakistan in as many years, following their successful tour last year, where they clinched a 2-0 victory in a two-match Test series. The upcoming series is highly anticipated, especially as it will take place after the conclusion of the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which runs from April 11 to May 18.
Originally part of the Future Tours Programme (FTP), the series was postponed due to scheduling conflicts. However, recent discussions during Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chairman Farooq Ahmed’s visit to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy have led to the finalization of the series for May.
According to reports from Dhaka, the matches are likely to be held in Faisalabad, Multan, and Lahore, with Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad being a focal point for the international fixtures. The stadium’s long-awaited return to hosting international cricket is expected to draw significant local support and enthusiasm. The last ODI match played at the venue was in 2008 between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The series promises to be an exciting showcase of talent, as both teams look to build on their recent performances. With the cricketing calendar packed, fans are eager to see how the players adapt after PSL X.
