More People in Punjab Can Now Use Free Wi-Fi

The Punjab government has expanded its free Wi-Fi service, adding more hotspots across the province while upgrading to Wi-Fi 6 technology for faster and more reliable internet.

In Lahore, the number of Wi-Fi hotspots has increased from 200 to 230, ensuring better coverage. The Safe Cities Authority is currently providing free internet at 300 locations across 11 districts, including Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, and Attock.

The service is also available at key locations in Sahiwal, Okara, and Murree, with plans for further expansion. According to officials, over 17.7 million users have already accessed the free Wi-Fi, consuming a total of 438 terabytes of data.

However, the service is primarily meant for emergency use and does not support video streaming or entertainment. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced initiatives to integrate digital technology into education, introducing smart classrooms and digital labs in government schools.

She emphasized the importance of IT education, highlighting courses in artificial intelligence, software development, and freelancing to equip students with modern skills.
