The Punjab government has announced a three-day holiday for Eidul Fitr, scheduled from March 31 to April 2 (Monday to Wednesday).
As per the official notification, public holidays will be observed across the province during this period. However, the final date for Eidul Fitr celebrations will depend on the moon sighting.
Meanwhile, the federal government has also confirmed public holidays for Eidul Fitr 2025, granting a nationwide break from Monday, March 31, to Wednesday, April 2. According to a notification from the Cabinet Division, these holidays will allow citizens to celebrate the festival following the conclusion of Ramadan.
Eidul Fitr Moon Sighting
Eidul Fitr is expected to fall on March 31, as the Shawwal crescent is likely to be visible on the evening of Sunday, March 30. The Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council has indicated that the moon will be over 26 hours old by sunset that day, making it easily visible under clear weather conditions.
Experts state that for a confirmed sighting, the moon must be at least 18 hours old, and the time gap between sunset and moonset will meet the required threshold, increasing the likelihood of Eid on March 31.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final announcement after reviewing moon sighting reports from across the country. If the crescent is confirmed on March 30, Eid celebrations will begin the following day.
