Punjab’s free Wi-Fi initiative has seen significant expansion, with the service now available at over 230 locations across multiple cities. This development aligns with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision for a more connected province.
The Safe City project has spearheaded this expansion, implementing free Wi-Fi access points in several urban centers. Lahore leads with 200 locations, followed by Sheikhupura with 15, Kasur with 10, and Nankana Sahib with 5 points.
A spokesperson for the initiative revealed impressive usage statistics for the past quarter. Approximately 7.7 million users consumed 111 terabytes of data, with the service maintaining a robust 98.7% availability rate.
The free internet access is reportedly having a positive impact on various sectors, including education, business, and social interaction. Officials view this as a crucial step towards transforming Punjab into a digital province.
“Citizens are finding their daily lives simplified through this free Wi-Fi service,” the spokesperson noted, emphasizing the practical benefits of the initiative for residents across the region.
