PCB Claims Record Revenue from Champions Trophy

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has declared that the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was a significant revenue booster. PCB spokesperson Aamir Mir and Chief Financial Officer Javed Murtaza held a press conference to refute allegations made by Indian media, asserting that the board earned a whopping Rs 3 billion from the event.

“All expenses for the tournament were covered by the ICC,” Mir stated confidently. He elaborated that the PCB generated revenue through gate money and ticket sales, with expectations of an additional Rs 3 billion from the ICC following an audit. Mir emphasized that the initial target of Rs 2 billion set for the Champions Trophy would be comfortably surpassed.

Highlighting the financial prowess of the PCB, Mir credited Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for enhancing the board’s financial standing, revealing that total revenue for the 2023-24 fiscal year reached Rs 10 billion—a remarkable 40% increase. “With this financial strength, PCB ranks among the top three richest cricket boards globally,” he added, noting that the board has also paid Rs 40 million in taxes.

Mir also shed light on the rapid renovations of stadiums under Naqvi’s leadership, stating that significant upgrades were completed in just four months. “After 29 years, a major stadium upgrade was undertaken, ensuring that venues met international standards,” he said.

Murtaza provided further details, confirming that the budget for these upgrades was set at PKR 18 billion. “For Phase One, Rs 12 billion was allocated, with Rs 10.5 billion already utilized,” he explained, adding that the remaining funds would be directed toward further improvements in stadiums across the country.

The PCB plans to enhance facilities in Karachi, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi in the next phase of their development.
