In a strategic move aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s preparedness for upcoming global T20I tournaments, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced changes to the schedule of the upcoming bilateral series against Bangladesh.
This adjustment, seen as part of Pakistan’s long-term planning for the 2025 Asia Cup and the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, will see the replacement of the originally scheduled One Day Internationals (ODIs) with Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). The decision underscores both teams’ focus on refining their T20 squads and strategies for the crucial tournaments ahead.
Sami Ul Hasan, the Director of Media and Communications for the PCB, confirmed the development on Sunday. The revised series format reflects a shared emphasis on T20 preparation as both teams aim to fine-tune their line-ups for the global T20 events.
Bangladesh was initially scheduled to tour Pakistan in May for three ODIs and three T20Is as part of the Future Tours Programme (FTP). However, the series will now consist of five T20Is, further highlighting the growing importance of the T20 format in the lead-up to key international tournaments. Similarly, Pakistan’s planned tour of Bangladesh in July, which was to feature three ODIs outside the FTP framework, will now be converted into a three-match T20I series.
Both teams are also set to compete in the Asia Cup, which will be held in India this September. The tournament will be played in the T20 format, offering both sides another critical opportunity to refine their T20 strategies and team combinations ahead of next year’s global competitions.
This restructuring reflects the rising prominence of T20 cricket on the international calendar, with both Pakistan and Bangladesh looking to position themselves as formidable contenders for the forthcoming multi-nation tournaments.
