This Laptop Can Extend Its Display from the Sides

Taiwanese manufacturer Compal has unveiled its Infinite Laptop concept, which expands horizontally into an ultrawide display. Revealed through iFDesign, the Infinite Laptop starts at 14 inches and extends from both sides to create an 18-inch screen—an arrangement that could be suitable for tasks like trading, content creation, or other multitasking needs.

The Infinite Laptop, still a concept, has already received an iF Design Award for its rollable mechanism that transitions from compact to expanded mode. This design aims to maintain a lightweight profile even when in ultrawide mode.

Similar to the ClinkCaim laptop (another 2025 iF Design Award-winning concept), the Infinite Laptop lacks a traditional touchpad. Instead, the input area is indicated by a subtle, illuminated patch, which may be intuitive for users who prefer a minimalist design.

The lid appears to include an LED array for system alerts and notifications, allowing users to stay informed without opening the device. Although specific hardware details are unknown, its emphasis on an ultrawide rollable display places it in line with recent trends where PC makers are experimenting with innovative form factors.

While Lenovo’s rollable design focuses on vertical screen expansion, Compal’s approach offers a broader workspace in a horizontal orientation. Both concepts highlight a growing interest in dynamic laptop displays, offering flexibility and potentially boosting productivity in various professional settings.

The iF Design Award program for 2025 received nearly 11,000 entries from 66 countries, with 131 jurors selecting the most notable designs. Compal’s Infinite Laptop secured a place among the winners, confirming that rollable screens—whether expanding vertically or horizontally—are generating considerable attention in the industry.
