This Laptop With No Touchpad and Detachable Webcam Just Got a Design Award

A relatively unknown Chinese company, Emdoor Digital Technology, has introduced a prototype laptop called the xCaim laptop, which received a 2025 iF Design Award. This laptop does not have your traditional touchpad and also has an interesting quirk with the webcam.

Here is what it looks like.

Emdoor plans to equip the xCaim with a Samsung V-NAND SSD 980, offering capacities from 250 GB up to 1 TB. Similar to the Honor MagicBook Art 14 (2024), the xCaim includes a magnetic, modular webcam positioned above the display. This webcam can detect real-time environmental data and becomes a mini secondary screen when removed, showing shortcuts and notifications, almost like a heads-up display.

The xCaim uses a chiclet-style keyboard but replaces the function keys with a touch-sensitive area. In addition, a small horizontal display below the keyboard shows system status, call information, and battery readings. A removable lower panel reveals two cooling fans. The device features thin bezels and a minimalist white-and-black color scheme, with three USB-C ports—two on the right and one on the left.

Emdoor’s approach alters familiar laptop conventions by integrating AI-driven interactions, modular elements, and a streamlined design. The xCaim’s layout suggests that manufacturers may explore similar concepts in the future, possibly resulting in more adaptable business notebooks.

iFDesign notes that the xCaim was selected from nearly 11,000 entries representing 66 countries. A panel of 131 jurors from 23 nations recognized its design and interaction methods, indicating new possibilities for laptop development.
