Microsoft Introduces Security AI Agents to Help Tighten Cybersecurity

Microsoft is enhancing its AI-powered Security Copilot, introduced a year ago to bring AI-driven chat to cybersecurity, by adding AI agents that can assist overworked security teams. The company is releasing six of its own AI agents, alongside five created by partner organizations, to extend the platform’s capabilities.

Microsoft’s Own AI Agents

Arriving in preview next month, Microsoft’s six security agents target common pain points such as phishing and data loss incidents, alert prioritization, and vulnerability detection. According to Vasu Jakkal, corporate vice president of Microsoft Security, the agents handle high-volume security and IT tasks autonomously, while also integrating seamlessly with other Microsoft Security solutions.

Third-Party Agents

Microsoft is collaborating with OneTrust, Aviatrix, BlueVoyant, Tanium, and Fletch on additional third-party AI agents. For example, an agent powered by OneTrust will help analyze data breaches more efficiently, and an Aviatrix-based agent will perform root cause analysis of network outages or failures, offering security teams more comprehensive assistance.

AI agents have seen rising popularity as a means for companies, including Microsoft, to bring AI services to businesses. Microsoft re-launched its Copilot for businesses earlier this year with a free AI chat feature and the option to pay for additional AI agents on a per-user basis.

Upgraded Security in Teams

In addition to AI agents, Microsoft is enhancing its phishing protection within Microsoft Teams. Starting next month, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 will safeguard Teams users against phishing attempts and cyber threats, including malicious URLs and attachments.

Microsoft also plans to reveal more security-related features and services at its upcoming Microsoft Secure event on April 9th. Detailed information on these developments can be found on Microsoft’s security blog.
