CII Rules First Wife Cannot Annul Marriage if Husband Remarries

The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has ruled that allowing a wife to annul her marriage if her husband remarries without her permission is un-Islamic. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by CII Chairman Dr Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naeemi, where members discussed multiple agenda items.

During the meeting, the council reportedly decided that premarital health testing for thalassemia or other contagious diseases could be included as an optional clause in the Nikahnama. However, the final decision to proceed with the marriage would remain with both parties under Islamic law.

Discussions were also held on establishing a human milk bank, with experts from the Sindh Institute of Child and Neonatology addressing concerns raised by council members. A final decision on the matter will be made in the next session.

The council ruled that organ transplantation, particularly of the kidney and liver, is permissible as long as it does not endanger the donor’s life. It was also decided that Islamic terms such as Salah, Ayah, and Masjid should remain in Arabic rather than being translated into English.

The meeting addressed financial matters, ruling that newly hired employees could be required to join a contributory pension system, while existing employees could not be forced to switch. The council also reaffirmed its stance against elements in the KP Transgender Bill, stating they were inconsistent with Islamic principles.
