Karachi Kings Appoint PSL 1 Player of the Tournament as Head Coach for PSL X

Former England all-rounder Ravi Bopara has been named the head coach of the Karachi Kings for the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL X). Bopara replaces former West Indies all-rounder Phil Simmons, who coached the team for one season.

Simmons, who recently served as the interim head coach of Bangladesh during the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, has had his contract extended by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) until the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027. This extension led to Simmons stepping down from his role with the Kings.

Bopara’s connection with the Karachi Kings dates back to the inaugural PSL season in 2016, where he was named Player of the Tournament. He represented the franchise as a player until 2019 before returning in 2023 as the batting coach. Last year, he was promoted to assistant coach, and now he takes the reins as head coach.

“Bopara’s deep understanding of the team’s dynamics and his extensive experience in T20 cricket make him the ideal choice to lead the side in PSL X. His leadership and tactical acumen will be crucial as the Karachi Kings aim for glory in the new season,” the franchise said in an official statement.

In addition to Bopara’s appointment, the Kings have entrusted assistant coach Muhammad Masroor with the additional responsibility of High-Performance coaching, further strengthening their coaching setup.

The 10th edition of the PSL kicks off on Friday, April 11, with defending champions Islamabad United facing two-time winners Lahore Qalandars at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Karachi Kings, the 2020 PSL champions, will begin their campaign on April 12 against Multan Sultans at their home ground, the National Bank Cricket Stadium in Karachi.
