The highly anticipated final of the 2025 National T20 Cup failed to live up to the hype as Lahore Region Blues, under the leadership of Hussain Talat, delivered a commanding performance to clinch the title with a resounding nine-wicket victory over Peshawar Region at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad on Thursday night.
Set a modest 111-run target, Lahore Blues made light work of the chase, wrapping up the match and annexing the National T20 Cup title in just 16 overs with 24 balls to spare. The star of the night was Umar Siddiq, who played a match-winning knock of 64 off 46 balls, peppering his innings with six fours and two sixes. Siddiq provided a solid foundation with an opening stand of 45 runs alongside Imran Butt, before combining with Junaid Ali (30 off 30, 3 fours) to put together an unbeaten 66-run partnership that sealed the title in style.
Earlier in the game, Peshawar’s batting unit faltered, managing only 110-9 in their allotted 20 overs. Their innings never gained momentum, with only three batters reaching double figures. Iftikhar Ahmed (34 off 33, 2 fours) and Mohammad Zulkifal (32 off 29, 4 fours, 1 six) were the only notable contributors, as the rest of the lineup struggled against Lahore’s disciplined bowling attack.
Sahibzada Farhan managed to make history by scoring the most runs in a single T20 competition in Pakistan with 605, but he struggled to replicate his form in the final when the bright-lights were on.
The standout performer with the ball was Mohammad Salman Mirza, who ran through the opposition with figures of 4-21 in his four-over spell, earning him the Player of the Match award.
Despite Peshawar’s loss, Sahibzada Farhan earned the Player of the Tournament and Best Batter awards for his incredible tally of 605 runs in seven matches. Hasan Ali (Sialkot Region) finished as the Best Bowler with 13 wickets in four games, while Muhammad Akhlaq (Lahore Region Whites) was recognized as the Best Wicketkeeper, recording six dismissals and scoring 114 runs.
Lahore Blues’ comprehensive victory in the National T20 Cup highlighted their batting depth, bowling firepower, and tactical execution. Along with the title, they claimed the PKR 5 million winners’ prize, while runners-up Peshawar earned PKR 2.5 million from the tournament’s PKR 9.4 million prize pool.
