Pakistan Team Condemns Abusive Behavior from Spectators During Third ODI

The Pakistan cricket team management has voiced its strong disapproval after an unsavory incident unfolded during their team’s third ODI against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui, where a group of foreign spectators directed abusive language at Pakistani players on the field.

The incident took place when a section of the crowd, reported to be Afghan supporters, began shouting anti-Pakistan slogans during the game. Witnesses said the remarks quickly crossed the line from sporting banter to offensive abuse featuring anti-Pakistan statements, prompting Khushdil Shah to approach the boundary in an attempt to defuse the situation. Khushdil was seen urging the crowd to show restraint and avoid using inappropriate language. However, rather than calming down, the spectators responded with further provocation—this time using abusive words in Pashto.

The situation escalated enough for Pakistan’s team management to lodge an official complaint with stadium authorities, who acted promptly. Officials identified the individuals involved and removed the two disruptive spectators from the venue.

In a statement following the incident, the Pakistan team condemned the behavior in the strongest terms, calling for respect and decency from fans, regardless of the on-field rivalry.

The incident during the third ODI between Pakistan and New Zealand has sparked concern over crowd behavior in international matches, especially when political rivalries spill over into disrespectful conduct that has no place in international cricket. While on-field battles are an essential part of cricket’s competitive spirit, the Pakistan team management reminded spectators that decency must extend beyond the boundary ropes.

The third ODI was Pakistan’s last fixture in the country, with focus now shifting to local duties.
