Record-Breaking Pakistani Doctors Get US Residency in 1 Year

In a remarkable achievement for Pakistan’s medical community, a record 1,061 doctors from the country have secured residency positions in the United States this year — the highest number ever recorded in a single year, revealed Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) President Professor Rizwan Taj on Tuesday.

Top medical institutions contributing to this milestone include King Edward Medical University, Allama Iqbal Medical College, Dow Medical College, Shifa College of Medicine, Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), and Khyber Medical University.

Professor Taj highlighted that this outstanding success reflects the high standards maintained by PMDC in regulating medical education across the country. He credited the council’s rigorous curricula and robust training programs for preparing Pakistani doctors to excel on international platforms.

“This achievement marks the beginning of a transformative journey,” said Dr. Taj, reaffirming PMDC’s commitment to nurturing academic excellence in the medical field. “With a rigorous system of checks and balances, the PMDC has played a pivotal role in guiding medical and dental colleges to uphold strong curricula and comprehensive training.”

He also emphasized the highly competitive nature of the US residency application process, which requires candidates to pass the demanding United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), demonstrate exceptional academic merit, and undergo extensive evaluations, including interviews and documentation.

“Only the most resilient and dedicated candidates succeed in such a challenging process,” Dr. Taj added. He expressed confidence that this achievement would further bolster PMDC’s vision of fostering excellence in medical education and preparing future healthcare professionals to meet global standards.

    • Only struggle in Pakistan No appreciation
      No financial benefit
No proper training for every doctor
Why not get proper training in USA

  • Ask his trainees they’ll give the real feedback. This person is such a hypocrite
Also this man got his position after issuing a fake and politically motivated psychiatric assessment of Imran Khan. Instead of getting his license cancelled, got chairmanship of PIMS and PMDC

  • Sir apka vision hy yeh:)
Dr Rizwan Taj is celebrating that Doctors of pakistan are leaving this country because PMDC has devastated the medical education in pakistan.

  • Why is losing our best talents being made to sound like something to be proud of?
Is this junta completely unable to create opportunities for our talent to return and be deployed respectably in Pakistan?
Remember it is our institutions paid for by our tax payers that gave inexpensive education because they are financially depreciated to near-zero.We, not USA, must benefit from our created facilities.

  • Pmdc is happy in contributing to the brain drain, pathetic,if all bright minds have to go abroad for ever, why are we spending so much money on training and teaching them

  • What is PMDC contribution.
This is their personal efforts of the doctors
PMDC is still living in past century , they are always there to take credit.

  • This is daylight robbery. Some call it ‘brain drain’. USA has obtained all these Pakistani doctors for free, without having to spend even a single dollar on their education and training. Whereas every single one of these doctors held up a place in a Pakistani medical college / university and cost the Pakistani taxpayers billions of rupees. It costs millions of dollars to train / produce a doctor in USA. Let USA train / produce it’s own doctors – USA should not steal the Pakistani doctors.

Saddam Hussein was absolutely right when he banned the migration of technocrats (doctors, engineers, scientists) from Iraq. Saddam issued orders that no passport would be issued to any technocrat because the technocrats obtained their degrees / qualifications using Iraqi educational institutions / facilities. Hence they have to serve the Iraqi nation at whatever salary / emoluments the Iraqi govt can afford to pay.

We should implement the same policy in Pakistan. No passports for any technocrat. It should be made compulsory for Pakistani technocrats to serve the Pakistani nation. If they want to serve the Americans they should obtain their degrees from American medical colleges by paying the fees in US dollars.

  • Only motivation is dollars yet thousands of people die in Pakistani hospitals for medical negligence. it’s not a talent but risk free medical experimentation on poor people causing them to go abroad with blood on their hands.

  • White is that all ? How about how badly they are treated in their own country ?

Ever thought about that rija ?
