In a determined effort to combat the growing issues of begging and illegal immigration, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has unveiled a set of stringent new measures. These include the tightening of passport issuance procedures and the blocking of passports for individuals deported from other countries, according to ARY News.
During a high-level visit to the Directorate of Immigration and Passports, Minister Naqvi chaired an important meeting attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Interior Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha, DG FIA Riffat Mukhtar Raja, and DG Passports Mustafa Jamal Qazi.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Naqvi instructed authorities to swiftly complete all legal processes necessary to enforce the new passport requirements. He emphasized that these measures are intended to act as a deterrent against organized begging networks and unauthorized migration.
“The revised passport regulations will play a crucial role in preventing both begging and illegal immigration,” Naqvi stated, highlighting the initiative’s potential to strengthen Pakistan’s image internationally.
Echoing his remarks, Minister Talal Chaudhry added, “This decisive move sends a strong and positive signal to the global community about Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining law and order.”
As part of the crackdown, Naqvi also ordered strict enforcement of the policy to block the passports of all deported individuals, stressing the importance of ensuring full compliance across the board.
Following the meeting, the Interior Minister inspected six newly installed Machine Readable Passport (MRP) units and two e-passport systems at the Directorate. A technical team from Germany, responsible for the installations, provided a detailed briefing on the operational upgrades.
Highlighting the improvements, Naqvi noted, “The introduction of these advanced machines will significantly enhance the capacity of passport offices, enabling quicker and more efficient passport issuance.”
DG Passports Mustafa Jamal Qazi also presented a comprehensive overview of the recent upgrades and revealed plans to launch a user-friendly mobile application aimed at simplifying public access to passport services.
This bold initiative by the federal government signals a renewed focus on tightened immigration control and enhanced service delivery as Pakistan moves toward aligning with international standards and best practices.
