The Pakistan Super League (PSL X) has finalized its tenth edition’s schedule, with day matches at 4:00 pm, night matches at 8:00 pm, and the opening game on April 11 at 8:30 pm in Rawalpindi.
The move aims to dodge a direct clash with the Indian Premier League (IPL), which overlaps with PSL X from March 22 to May 25. PSL CEO Salman Naseer confirmed that matches will start an hour after IPL games (7:00 pm).
The decision to adjust timings comes as the PSL navigates a crowded cricketing calendar and an unprecedented overlap with the IPL, the world’s most lucrative T20 league, which is slated to run from March 22 to May 25. PSL CEO Salman Naseer addressed this scheduling challenge in a recent podcast, explaining that the April-May window was the only viable option for PSL X due to Pakistan’s international commitments earlier in the year, including hosting the ICC Champions Trophy in February and March.
“We had no choice but to slot PSL in April-May,” Naseer said in a podcast. “It’s not ideal, but our loyal fan base will still tune in for competitive cricket.” The tournament will run until May 18.
The opener pits defending champions Islamabad United against Lahore Qalandars, with Rawalpindi hosting 11 matches, Lahore 13 (including the final), and Karachi and Multan five each. Despite the IPL’s global pull, Naseer remains confident, citing PSL’s history of quality play and stars like David Warner and Kane Williamson. The one-hour buffer seeks to retain viewership, though the IPL’s reach could challenge PSL X’s spotlight. With the first ball imminent, Pakistan’s premier T20 league is ready to roll.
