The Sindh Transport Department has introduced an online system for issuing fitness certificates to commercial vehicles, aiming to enhance transparency, reduce corruption, and streamline processes across the province. Launched on March 25, this initiative marks a significant step toward digitizing vehicle inspections.
Sharjeel Inam Memon, Senior Sindh Minister, announced the opening of two new fitness centers in Karachi, located at the Zulfiqarabad Oil Tanker Terminal in Malir and Ibrahim Hyderi in Korangi. These centers are equipped with advanced tools and staffed with trained technicians to inspect commercial vehicles, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
The new system aims to eliminate paper-based processes, improve revenue management, and prevent fraudulent activities, according to Memon. The system integrates the Provincial Transport Authority, Regional Transport Authority, and District Regional Transport Authorities, marking a major reform in the department’s operations.
In the first phase, 63 vehicles were inspected, with 30 receiving fitness certificates and 33 being deemed unfit. The next phase will extend this service to divisional headquarters across Sindh, offering greater accountability and accessibility. The system also features enhanced security features for on-site verification of vehicles.
