The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to deploy over 6,000 police officers and personnel in the initial phase to staff newly established security divisions tasked with protecting VIPs and key government buildings in the province.
During a provincial cabinet meeting chaired by KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, senior officials from the KP’s Home and Tribal Affairs Department highlighted concerns that the current deployment of police officers for VIP security was impacting public safety. They noted that under the Police Rules of 1934, specific ratios dictate police deployment based on population and duties, yet the current allocation for VIP protection strained available resources and affected law and order.

To address these issues, the Home and Police Departments proposed deploying 11,853 police personnel in three phases: 4,000 in 2024-25, another 4,000 in 2025-26, and 3,853 in 2026-27. However, the KP finance department suggested filling 5,852 existing vacant police posts instead of creating new ones, citing financial constraints.
After detailed deliberation, the cabinet approved the Home Department’s proposal, emphasizing that existing police personnel would be reallocated within the new security divisions rather than creating additional posts for VIP security.
