Karachi Police Stops Smuggling of 11,400 Bottles of Beer

Police in Karachi have foiled a major attempt to smuggle a large quantity of beer, seizing 570 cartons containing 11,400 bottles worth over Rs. 10 million, the Malir district police confirmed on Sunday.

According to a statement, the Airport police carried out a successful operation after receiving a tip-off, leading to the recovery of the beer consignment hidden inside a truck. The suspects had allegedly planned to supply the alcohol to various areas of the city.

Malir Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kashif Aftab Abbasi said the consignment was seized during a targeted operation aimed at dismantling networks involved in supplying drugs and illegal substances.

He added that the operation was part of a broader crackdown launched in the wake of the Mustafa Amir case, which exposed the rising trend of drug use at parties and among students.

“The suspects were attempting to discreetly distribute the beer across Karachi using a transport truck,” SSP Abbasi noted, adding that the vehicle had also been taken into custody. Legal proceedings are now under way.

In recent months, police have intensified efforts against drug peddlers. Earlier this year, four individuals, including a minor, were sentenced to 14 years in prison for possession of over 20kg of drugs. In a separate case, a young actor was arrested in the Defence area with narcotics.

Further investigations into the smuggling network are ongoing.
