Here Are the Final Candidates to Become the Next PFF President

The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) is once again at a crossroads, as the final list of contenders for the next President has been confirmed ahead of the fast-approaching election. After an intense period, Taha Alizai, Mohsen Gillani, and Hafiz Zaka will contest what is expected to be one of the most closely fought elections in recent memory, with the future of Pakistan football hanging in the balance.

The three-man list was first confirmed by Zeeshan Shafi.

The confirmation of the final candidates follows continuous scrutiny, lobbying, and internal deliberations within the PFF’s electoral system. With Pakistan’s footballing infrastructure in dire need of stability and long-term vision following years of administrative uncertainty and FIFA-imposed normalization committees, this vote could mark a pivotal turning point.

While all three candidates bring different credentials and constituencies to the table, the race is far from predictable.

Taha Alizai, according to federation insiders, is emerging as an early frontrunner, reportedly enjoying informal support from certain government quarters after Zahir Shah’s ban. Although no official endorsement has been issued for the Karachi United founder, his background in sports management gives him both bureaucratic backing and a reformist image.

However, Mohsen Gillani, a veteran FIFA development officer, is expected to consolidate support from traditionalists within the PFF’s voter base. After initial struggles, he has managed to garner enough support to nominate himself for the position of PFF President.

Hafiz Zakaullah, the third candidate, is also being touted as a potential pick for PFF Presidency. He already has the support of the Pakistan Football Referees Association, which could tip the scales in his favor.

With 25 votes in total, a candidate would need to secure 13 to be elected as the next PFF President.

The upcoming election isn’t just a joust for administrative control—it’s a referendum on the direction of Pakistan football itself. With the country recently re-entering international competition after sustained institutional limbo, the new PFF president will inherit both an opportunity and a burden.

For now, the contest remains delicately poised. Taha Alizai may have the early momentum, but both Mohsen Gillani and Zakaullah are seasoned operators with support that could swing the result in unpredictable directions.

One thing is certain: this election will shape the next chapter of Pakistan football—and the whole country is watching.
