Microsoft has taken a significant step in AI automation by introducing a new feature in Copilot Studio known as “computer use.” This advancement allows AI agents to perform tasks for you on websites and applications automatically, just like a human would, despite the absence of built-in integrations or APIs.
What is ‘Computer Use’?
The “computer use” feature in Copilot Studio is designed to help businesses automate a wide variety of tasks without requiring complex technical setups. Businesses can now create AI agents that can handle tasks such as logging into websites, filling out forms, processing invoices, conducting market research, and even handling customer service requests.
Charles Lamanna, a senior leader at Microsoft, explained that this feature would allow AI agents to mimic human interactions, performing actions like clicking buttons, typing data, and navigating through web interfaces.
AI Agents that Adapt
One of the standout features of the “computer use” capability is its ability to adapt to dynamic, changing interfaces. Unlike previous automation tools that require static APIs, this feature allows AI agents to adjust to new layouts or functionalities within apps and websites. This ensures more dependable and continuous automation for business operations, reducing downtime and improving productivity.
This flexibility in handling tasks across varying platforms will be particularly beneficial for businesses that deal with constantly evolving online tools or customer-facing services.
Building on Microsoft’s Previous Tools
This new “computer use” feature builds on Microsoft’s previous AI tools, particularly the “Actions” feature. While Actions was mainly focused on automating personal tasks, the computer use functionality extends these capabilities into the business realm. By enabling AI agents to interact with multiple systems and apps, Microsoft is making it easier for businesses to deploy intelligent automation across their operations, streamlining workflows and reducing the manual workload for employees.
