Toyota Launches Final Variant of the Iconic 5th-Gen Supra

Toyota has unveiled the GR Supra MkV Final Edition in California, marking the end of the fifth-generation Supra.

Priced at $69,085 (including delivery), it’s significantly more affordable than its Japanese and European counterparts. However, this lower price tag comes at a cost: reduced engine power compared to the global A90 Final Editions.

Less Power, More Questions

The American version of the Final Edition packs a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine producing 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque—47 hp less than the 429-hp engine found in the Japan and Europe-exclusive A90 Final Editions. This downgrade has left many fans wondering if the savings are worth the performance sacrifice.

Style Still Impresses

Despite the engine disparity, the Final Edition doesn’t fall short on design. With 19-inch matte black wheels, carbon fiber spoiler and mirror caps, red accents, and Alcantara-trimmed interior, the car is loaded with visual appeal. Aerodynamic improvements give it a functional edge on the track, making it a stylish yet aggressive sendoff.

Limited Production and Spring Launch

Only 900 units of the MkV Final Edition will be produced for the North American market. By contrast, the A90 Final Edition will see just 150 units in Japan and Europe, increasing its exclusivity. The MkV will arrive in dealerships by spring 2025, with production ending in 2026.

Supra vs. Nissan Z NISMO

The Final Edition enters a competitive market. The 2025 base GR Supra starts at $56,250, while the Nissan Z NISMO starts at $66,890. Nissan is already ahead in 2024 sales with 3,100 Z units sold, compared to 2,600 Supras. With this move, Toyota aims to regain ground before launching the sixth-generation Supra.

Farewell or Letdown?

The GR Supra MkV Final Edition is a beautiful and aggressive machine, but some purists may view it as a missed opportunity. While it saves on cost and still delivers strong performance, the detuned engine may leave enthusiasts wanting more. As Toyota bids farewell to the fifth-gen Supra, all eyes are now on what the next generation will bring.
