Punjab Officially Launches Electric Bus Service for Famous Tourist Destination

Commuters traveling between Murree and Rawalpindi can now use an all-electric public transport service, as the Punjab government has officially launched the Murree-Rawalpindi Electric Bus Service.

The service began operations on Thursday and is aimed at providing passengers with a safer, more comfortable, and environmentally friendly mode of transport between the twin destinations.

The launch comes weeks after the Punjab government handed over more than 15 electric buses to the Murree district administration as part of its initiative to modernize public transport and promote clean mobility in the hill station.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi had said the project would help reduce air pollution and carbon emissions while protecting Murree’s fragile natural environment.

The electric buses are expected to offer affordable and convenient transportation for both local residents and the millions of domestic and international tourists who visit Murree every year.

According to officials, the buses are equipped with modern features designed to improve the passenger experience. The project also includes dedicated electric charging stations to support uninterrupted operations.

Besides the newly launched Murree-Rawalpindi route, the electric buses are expected to operate on major roads and key tourist destinations across Murree as part of the province’s broader push toward sustainable public transportation.
