Karachi Gets New Massive Parking Space at Famous Market

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Sunday inaugurated a new parking facility at Empress Market in Saddar, offering space for 600 vehicles—300 motorcycles and 300 cars.

Speaking at the event, Wahab said the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is working to resolve parking issues in the city, especially in busy downtown areas. “This project will help ease traffic congestion and provide convenience to residents and visitors,” he said.

He urged citizens to avoid parking on roads, which often causes traffic jams in Saddar. Wahab added that parking problems have long affected shopkeepers and commuters, and this step is part of a larger plan to improve urban management.

The mayor also announced that similar facilities will soon be developed at Boulton Market and other central locations. He expressed interest in taking over Saddar’s existing parking plaza from the Karachi Development Authority to ensure better use of the space.

Wahab outlined a three-phase plan for the Empress Market area: first, resolving parking issues; second, upgrading space for meat vendors; and third, improving the vegetable section.

Senior city officials and elected representatives, including Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, were also present during the inauguration.
