Govt to Hand Over Pakistan Railways’ Schools and Hospitals to Private Sector

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi has announced the outsourcing of all Pakistan Railways hospitals and 14 schools across the country, citing their poor condition and failure to serve the public effectively.

Speaking at a reception hosted by local leaders in Rawalpindi’s UC-14, Abbasi criticised the current state of the railway-run medical facilities. “The condition of railway hospitals is very poor. Instead of treating patients, doctors are advising vaccines worth Rs. 50,000 to be bought from outside,” he remarked.

He said the government had no choice but to hand over management of these institutions to private operators, adding, “The decision was taken after reviewing the dismal state of affairs.”

The event was attended by Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Production Usama Ashfaq Sarwar, Punjab Assembly members, and several former local officials.

Abbasi also warned railway staff that accountability would now be strictly enforced. “There is no place for negligent employees in Pakistan Railways,” he said, stressing that with the approval of overtime and other demands for 58,000 employees, it was now their responsibility to report on time through the digital biometric system and perform their duties with full dedication.

He credited the PML-N government for expanding education and sports infrastructure in Rawalpindi.
