The federal government had officially declared May 1, 2025 (Thursday), as a public holiday in connection with Labour Day, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division.
The announcement was part of the annual list of public and optional holidays released by the government for the year 2025. The circular, dated December 23, 2024, confirms that all government institutions, schools, and most private offices will remain closed on May 1 to mark the occasion.
Labour Day is observed worldwide to honour the contributions of workers and to advocate for their rights.
In Pakistan, the day is typically commemorated with seminars, processions, and events aimed at raising awareness about labour rights and working conditions.
The inclusion of Labour Day in the official public holiday calendar ensures a nationwide break, providing an opportunity for labour organisations and rights groups to highlight ongoing challenges faced by workers in the country.
The full list of holidays also includes major religious events, national days, and other important occasions observed in Pakistan throughout 2025.
