India Forces Australian Cricket YouTube Channel to Take Down All IPL Related Content

Indian cricket authorities have ordered the popular Australian YouTube channel, The Grade Cricketer podcast, which has over a million viewers worldwide, to take down all videos related to this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

The show’s hosts, Sam Perry and Ian Higgins, received a legal notice from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and IPL, demanding the removal of videos that used IPL photos and logos for what they called “commercial” purposes.

To avoid being banned or suspended from digital platforms, the podcast’s creators removed all IPL-related videos from YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and X. Their daily IPL show, “The Big IPL Breakfast,” may also need a new name.

The legal action was triggered by the use of still images from IPL matches, which the BCCI says can only be used for editorial, not commercial, purposes. The Grade Cricketer’s videos included sponsorships, which may have led to the crackdown.

Despite the takedown, the podcast will continue covering the IPL, but without using official images or team names. The hosts are also planning live shows in India during the tournament.

  • The title reads “India Forces Australian Cricket YouTube Channel to Take Down All IPL Related Content”. As per other media reports this is what Sam Perry, one of the producer on that youtube channel said ““This is something we’ve done ourselves, it hasn’t been done to us, we have removed these videos.”. Your title starting with “India Forces” smirks of misinformation and racism and your hatred against India. That channel used images which specifically mention for “editorial” use only and not for commercial use. This channel has sponsorship deals with many companies which pay them for adding their advertisements in their podcast. So it is a breach and TGC accepted it and removed it. There is no force. Simple business and economics, which might be hard for you to understand.
